You can easily explore both of them and here I show you the best way to do it!

Once arrived in Xining you can choose 4 travel options:

Book a travel agent! 100$ / 2 people for 2 days predesigned tour. The entry tickets for all attractions/ food /accommodation & tips are not included.

TRAIN – (available only from 1st June to 31August) Only once/day leave Xining 8:25AM and arrive Chaka 12:25. COST 10$ (60RMB). You can enjoy sceneries hard to access by car or foot, but still sometimes have to take local bus or taxi to see the main attractions. So… you lack of flexibility…

BUS – They are many long-distance buses in early morning starting from bus terminal (next to the train station) with destination HEIMAHE! On the way you can get off anywhere. PRICE 8$

Our option and THE BEST IMO – RENT a car 50$ / 2 days (no insurance) from the main train station, but you must a have a local friend (with mainland China driving license) (If you don’t contact us and we will share to you our local contacts)  then … let’s GO!!!

Start your journey drive on the South coast towards Qinghai Lake Erlang Jian scenic area. Here is the best spot for photography when the Rape Flowers bloom with the lake & deep blue sky in the background.

From here cross the mountains dominated by Tibetan yak and sheep herders (if you want a special experience stop by one of the local sheep farm run by Tibetan family, try some delicious fresh made yogurt, and have a interaction with local’s lifestyle. This is unique indeed and no tour offer to you that. keep in mind.
